Task 4
Graphic Design Book Review Graphic Artists Guild – Directory of Illustration Volume 7 Published in 1990 by Hearst Publications The Directory of Illustration Vol 7 is a book that listed Illustrators and the Companies that they work for and represent. Each artist has examples of their works. The Graphic Artists Guild puts this list together; the Guild started in 1968 and became the supporting body for commercial artist. The beginning of the book explains why the Guild was created and the code of practice. Basically the Guild was created to protect artists works and to push for fair work conditions and pay rates for artists. The book is beautifully put together; the pages are full color prints on thick glossy paper, which makes it lovely to flick through. Each page is set out with either a boxed section of text at the bottom or the top of the double page spread. Meaning the pictures have been made really big. I really enjoyed flicking through the Directory of Illustration, I think I enjoyed the book more so because it from 1990 and the style of illustration reflected that. Having said that there were many illustrations that could easily be used today in 2009.
